The Taiwanese desktop PC industry recorded significant shipment growth in the fourth quarter of 2010, with shipment volume reaching over 14.7 million units, up 12.4% compared to the third quarter of 2010. Owing to the desktop replacement effect in the enterprise segment, major branded vendors, such as HP and Dell, continued to record shipment growth in the fourth quarter of 2010, boosting Taiwanese desktop PC industry shipment volume as a result. Due to the lackluster performance of the overall economy in the third quarter of 2010, branded vendors experienced inventory buildup; thus, branded vendors aggressively adjusted product prices in order to lower inventory levels before the launch of new products. It is observed that the price adjustment has contributed to shipment growth as well.
